The Value Chain Management (VCM) Lab at Yonsei University's Department of Industrial Engineering researches various design and operation issues arising in Value Chains and Supply Chains. In addition to traditional supply chain optimization research, we focus on research into Smart Factories and Smart Supply Chains with innovative technologies, and research on solving environmental and social problems in the recently emphasized ESG management. The main purpose of Value Chain Management is to maximize overall supply chain performance through the cooperation of multiple participants in an environment with various uncertainties and variabilities. We research models that allow marketing, finance, and R&D to collaborate with the optimization of production, logistics, and purchasing decisions. The 4th Industrial Revolution, triggered by Industry 4.0, has spread innovative technologies such as CPS, artificial intelligence, 3D printers, autonomous vehicles, and UAM, advancing Smart Factories and Smart Supply Chains. We research problems that supply chains must solve to gain competitiveness in a changed technological environment. Globally, ESG management, emphasizing non-financial performance in Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G), has emerged, and the EU has announced Industry 5.0 focusing on human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. We research ways to solve environmental and social problems through supply chain management. We solve Value Chain problems based on the development of mathematical optimization models and algorithms, proposing optimization solutions to cope with uncertainty, problem-solving using data and artificial intelligence, and verification and analysis through simulation.
