Dr. Hwang's research is principally concerned with analysis and design modeling of reinforced concrete and composite structures. Because of complicated load transfer mechanism in the reinforced concrete and composite structures, most of design models specified on current design codes were determined empirically from the many test results. Thus, the existing design model significantly depends on the number of structural tests and design parameters. On the other hand, in Dr. Hwang's research, analysis and design models are developed on the basis of mechanism theory. As a result, the structural performance of the structural members with various parameters or using new details can be accurately evaluated without many new tests. On the basis of the mechanism based model, Dr. Hwang's research has proposed reasonable analysis and design models of various structural members. My research team deals with various research topics related to building structure, and we welcome those who study together.
