연구실 소개

The Laboratory for Architecture and Historic Cities (LAHC) explores the history and culture of cities and architecture. History is not merely a story of past eras but the foundation shaping our present. Culture has to be dealt with care and seriousness, providing deeper insights into the meanings embedded within cities and architecture of each era. Researching urban and architectural history and culture offers crucial insights and implications for envisioning the future of our cities and built environment. Conducting meaningful research in this field requires specialized knowledge and skills, which our lab fosters through continuous literature studies and rigorous field investigations. LAHC has conducted extensive research on Seoul’s traditional Hanok residential areas and culture houses (munhwa-jutaek), the Korean DMZ, Ancient City Preservation Districts in Buyeo and Gongju, and brick architecture from Korea’s early modern period. In the future, LAHC aims to expand its research scope to include historic cities and architecture internationally.
