Current research areas of So Young Sohn cover spatial big data analysis, science of patent policy and technology credit scoring. So Young Sohn is an expert in the area of technology financing, specializing the development of technology credit scoring models. Her pioneering framework for technology rating system has been being implemented by Korean government agency that is responsible for managing technology credit guarantee fund. Her effort has contributed to tremendous amount of reduction of risk involved in the guarantee fund and at the same time to identifying innovative firms as fund recipients. Her contribution was recognized in 2007 as an awardee of the Outstanding Female Scientist of the Year (Engineering area) in Korea. She is the author of more than 100 SCI/SSCI articles and the inventor of several patents in the related areas. She served as Editor-in-Chief of IE interfaces and Journal of Engineering Education Research. She is a fellow of the Korean Academy of Science & Technology and vice president of Korean Institute of Industrial Engineering. So Young Sohn received a Ph. D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and has MS degrees in Management Science from Imperial College and Industrial Engineering from KAIST. She was a recipient of the American Statistical Association/National Science Foundation/US Bureau of Labor Statistics Research associateship (1990) and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office awards (1985-1986). Prior to joining Yonsei University, She gained both teaching and research experiences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1995-1996), the Naval Postgraduate School (1990-1995), U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Korea Institute for Defense Analysis (1983-1985) as an Assistant professor, Applied statistician and an Operations research analyst, respectively. She was invited as a visiting scholar at Dept. of Industrial Engineering, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey (Feb 2008); Imperial College, London, UK (Jan 2004-Dec 2004), Visiting Scholar, NIST, IT Lab Statistical Engineering Lab, Gaithersburgh, MD, USA (Jan-Feb 2000). Most recently, she had an extremely valuable research visit to the Center for Technology Management, University of Cambridge in 2008. During 2014-2015, she was a visiting scholar to Harvard Kennedy School. She also was a co-principal investigator for KOSEF-STINT Project with Prof Ove Granstrand at Charmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden for research entitled
